“Mike The Bike” Hailwood was a great ace on both two wheels and four. One of only a few men, including John Surtees, to have done this.
He won everything on bikes at the top flight including 4 consecutive 500cc world championships. Unlike racers of today, he also competed in the deadly Isle of Man TT which he won 12 times.
He did not achieve much success in F1 and had a relatively short career, nevertheless he was a respected mid-pack runner.
Probably the most famous memory of his time in F1 is pulling his fellow driver, Clay Regazzoni, from a burning wreckage, setting his own clothes on fire.
